¡Bienvenidos a la Clase de Español con Señora Smith!
A native of Michigan, I relocated to Griswold from England 5 years ago with my husband and daughter. My son joined us shortly after we moved in, throwing us for a loop after arriving two months early! I have over 20 years’ experience working with and for children in a variety of educational settings and am delighted to be teaching Spanish in my own community.
Authentic communication is the foundation of language acquisition and I bring a wealth of academic qualifications and life experiences to help students make connections that bring the Spanish language to life in the classroom. I have extensive international exchange experience that spans the globe--developing and managing community-based programs and projects across public, private and non-profit sectors worldwide, including Colombia, Mexico, Italy, the United Kingdom, South Africa, China, Japan and India.
In addition to Spanish, I am proficient in French and have taught both at the high school level. I have also studied German and Russian, which has come in handy in my travels to those countries. I believe that being able to communicate with others in their own language is essential for both personal growth as well as healthy national and international relations—the future of which lies in our children’s hands.
In addition to education and my family, my passions include traveling, reading, cooking, sewing, and running.
